STOP LOGGING CATCHMENTS

The state government are logging Melbourne’s water catchments to the detriment of our water supply. Our organisation has been running a community education program on this since 2002 and with the outcome of the latest government study revealing water losses as high as 16 billion litres  per year or the drinking water of 500,000 Melburnians we must stop any further logging.

With 15 Melbourne Councils passing a motion to oppose any further logging in Melbournes catchments, a poll revealing 64% of Melburnians opposing logging in catchments and the recent Warburton rally seeing 1000 regional people taking to the streets to oppose logging in their catchments - the time has come for all governments to put an end to policy that permits logging in our drinking water.

The Water Consumers of Victoria have initiated a review of the governments new Target 155 water reduction campaign and requested that the state include an end to logging in our catchments as part of this welcomed initiative.

Help us to let the state government know, we want water NOT woodchips.

Fire news
THE SALVAGE or SAVAGE LOGGING OF MARYSVILLE’S FUTURE
Marysville will be a town in a wasteland of burnt earth and slash if the massive ‘salvage’ logging of its forests is not stopped.
Mountains of wood are being cut from the ravaged hills and mountains around Marysville in a government logging program to sell it principally for woodchips.
Other communities are suffering under the 24/7 log truck cavalcade, iadding to struggling tourism and causing safety concerns on the bush roads.
The loggers have come from as far as New South Wales to cash in on the contracts to cut up Marysvilles tourism future. Mr Brumby’s logging agency VicForests has been deployed to manage the clearing and once burned again, is going to rival Queenstown, Tasmania when they have finished.
